Pie Shop Adds New Recipes and Family-Fun Events
By Cecily Markland
Piefection, an East Mesa gourmet pie shop, is giving people all kinds of reasons to the traditional dessert.
From a pie-eating contest, to newly introduced recipes, to a Mothers’ Day essay contest, Piefection continues to add a special ingredient of family-style fun along with delicious, top-quality pies, says Piefection owner, Cheryl Standage.
The pie-eating contest was held at Piefection, at 6731 E. Brown Road (southwest corner of Power and Brown roads), in early April and was kicked off with Fox 10’s Cory McCloskey joining in the fun.
Cheryl says two new “Arizona-style” pies have been added to their list of dessert and dinner pies, all of which are made from scratch in-house daily with top-quality ingredients.
“We use no preservatives or additives and only the finest ingredients around,” Cheryl says.
The Arizona Orange Pie is the latest addition among the 30 varieties of whole pies.
“We go to the groves, pick the oranges, squeeze them ourselves and make an orange pie that is sort of like a key lime pie. It’s really yummy,” Cheryl says.
To their menu of chicken and turkey pot pies that customers can either “take and bake” or purchase ready to eat, Piefection has added a new Green Chili Pork Pot Pie.
“It has fresh-roasted green chilis, fire-roasted corn, pinto beans, big chunks of braised pork… it’s fabulous,” Cheryl says.
To add to the fun and the feeling of tradition, Piefection hosted a Mothers’ Day “Pie-fect Mother” essay contest and a Mothers’ Day Special, featuring their Hawaiian Delight Pie.
