The light of Christ shines brightly during the holidays. People smile more, speak more kindly, and unite as communities. This time also brings glittering displays of literal lights and unique opportunities to teach kids about the power of keeping the light of Christ with us all year.
The McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale is a magical place to take your kids to meet Saint Nick. While riding in a train car, kids can get a unique view of Christmas light displays. The holiday light events run from 6:30pm until 9:00pm. Santa will be in town Friday, December 1st, Saturday, December 2nd, and every night from December 8th until December 23rd. This event does have an intermittent schedule, with the following closures: Monday, December 4th; Sunday, December 24th; Monday, December 25th; and Sunday, December 31st.

Keep Christ in Christmas by spending time outside the Mesa Temple. The lights turn on at 5pm, and the venue presents opportunities for thankful reflection. Families can enjoy festive holiday traditions while being reminded of the blessings available because of our Savior. Lights turn off at 10pm and the display closes December 31st.

Other Christian Church Lights
Take your family over to Red Mountain Community Church for their beautiful display of 500,000 lights. This is a great opportunity for families to visit another Christian church and spread the Christian spirit of love. This display begins with a Flip the Switch event at the end of November, but the lights stay up until December 30th.

On Saturday, December 2nd, your family won’t want to miss the APS Electric Light Parade in Phoenix. This decorative parade begins at 7pm at the cross streets of Montebello Avenue and Central Avenue. Lighted floats pass by and hundreds of families from the Phoenix area join together as admirers. The parade will end at the cross streets of Indian School Rd. and 7th St, and the ending time varies each year. Grab some chairs, set up a spot, and enjoy the community Christmas spirit.
Don’t Forget the Dog
Thanks to the Tranquility Trail Animal Sanctuary, Scottsdale has its 7th annual Holiday Pet Festival. Fill out a pet registration form, bring the leash, and explore the holiday spirit with your furry or feathered friends. This event includes booths to buy pet gifts, discount chipping for your animal, rescue animals looking to be adopted, and much more! Santa will even be there to verify your pet’s placement on the naughty or nice list.
