Classical composer Ludwig Von Beethoven said, “Music is…a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy.” Music has a huge impact on emotions, thoughts and even relationships. Music brings people together. It unites us. It inspires us. It touches us. Regardless of age, ethnicity or gender, everyone in the world feels the power of inspiring music.
The Pay it Forward Band recognizes this powerful force and has accepted a very important mission—to bring the best entertainment to some of the people in this world who need and deserve it the most. The band performs exclusively at nursing homes and the band members place a heavy emphasis on the music that appeals to the patrons. From Frank Sinatra to Judy Garland to Hank Williams, Sr., the Pay it Forward Band delivers music from one of the best musical eras in history.
The Pay it Forward Band is not just a traveling performance group. Director Gary Gamponia looks exclusively for professional or very skilled amateur musicians who are looking for a way to give back to their community and accept the mission of the charity. Not only does the Pay it Forward Band deliver unforgettable musical performances, they invite nursing homes to raise the bar on the quality of the entertainers that perform there.
While the band has seen immense success starting at its epicenter in Los Angeles and reaching hundreds of miles, the band has not formed any official group in Arizona yet. Gamponia is searching for qualified musicians who will ignite the fire and spread the gospel of the Pay it Forward Band. If you are among the many people who would like to get involved with the Pay it Forward Band but lack the musical skills to participate, don’t fret! The band offers a secondary program called The Traveling Troubadours. The Troubadours make one-on-one visits to nursing home patrons in their own rooms. Many of the patrons are unable to leave their rooms to attend the official performances due to physical limitation or illness. The Troubadours bring joy in a more intimate setting and they are an indispensable part of the organization.
Music is a force unlike any other, and the Pay it Forward Band wants to bring its uplifting influence to people who really need it—and they want to do it here in our Valley. The band’s mission doesn’t stop with their amazing musical performances. They ask nursing homes to “pay it forward” and improve the entertainment made available for patrons. Many people in nursing homes feel hopeless, trapped and discouraged. They have few or no expectations for the future, nothing to look forward to. The Pay it Forward Band wants to change that. They offer more than just entertainment; they offer their time, their talents and their hearts by sharing the gift of music.
